Pogo Pin Connector
Now, CCP provides a series of products, called "pogo-pin connector". In the connector world, Pogo-pin connector is a special type of contact technology. In the past few years, this reliable technology has been accepted by many world-class customers and applied for hundred kinds of electronic products, such as mobile phone, GPS device, car stereo, notebook, TV game peripheral, LED road lamp, hearing aid, mobile radios, and etc.
At present, with the marketing development and the product technique upgrading, more and more consumers prefer not only multi-functional electronic products but also with fashion looks and small, thin size. However, to make products smaller and thinner, all product designers are facing big challenges. They are difficult to make it by choosing standard connectors in the market because of the space of product structure problem or the fixed spec of standard connectors. Based on this problem, our R&D engineers generate a solution and set up a customization process to help product designers enhance interconnection technique. In addition to saving space, pogo-pin connector also has advantages of easy to be assembled, long life cycle, and lower sample costs.
Structure
The pogo pin connector consists of 3 parts - Plunger, Spring, and Barrel (based on customer's need, we can match with housing and cap).

For the plunger design, we provide several kinds of structures for your solution:
1 Back-Drill Design
This design is the best solution for ultra-small size pogo pin connector. To reach the spring force which customer wants, the length of spring is always longer than the depth of barrel. Without sufficient space for spring, we make the plunger hollow to let spring have a room to extend. Like this, it can bring force constant and a wide of stroke travel for user¡¦s choice. We received the Patent of design in China.

2 Bias Design
In order to make the plunger be able to 100% contact with the edge of barrel, we slice the end of plunger like a bias style. Under this design, it can bring low interconnection resistance. The aggressive bias design is our patent in China, which assures absolute consistency of external contact resistance, is controlled.


Barrel
About our barrel design, to fit your design space and functional requirement, and keep guaranteed life-cycle at the same time, we offer many choices for the outside diameter of barrels in our product catalog. On the end of Barrel, we also can design a flange for your convenience to fit tight and control the depth of soldering with printed circuit board. Besides, with rectangular shape and bent-metal type, we also have best right-angle solutions for battery connector.

1 : Barrel materials
Brass normally offers the lower cost, beryllium copper is a good choice for electrical performance, and nickel silver is a bit more producible which is sometimes chosen for very mall or delicate barrel. Or, when the barrel is un-plated, phosphor bronze tends to have better characteristics when used in high frequency application. Barrel generally can¡¦t be heat-treated, as this would interfere with the crimping during the probe assembly process. Selective hardening is an option, but can significantly alter the cost of finished probe.
2 : Plunger materials
The basic choices of plunger are the same as the barrel materials above, but only for the tool steel SK4 material which has an advantage of hardness over others. SK4 is hard to protect tip style, and it is always heat-treated, to lend structural strength and sharp edge integrity. All of materials are easy to tooling by CNC, or CAM lathe machines.
3: Spring materials
Spring is made by high carbon steel known as music wire. Music wire has very high tensile strength, and can be get high force with long mechanical life. But the music wire is high magnetic and it is easy to stress relax through overheating, and be subject to corrosion, so the music wire spring must be plated before using. Regarding the stainless steel material, it is less magnetic and offers a highest temperature rating of the common spring material. For the Beryllium copper material ,it have an excellent fatigue strength and a low resistance, but the Beryllium copper material has a lower tensile strength , usually it is difficult to design spring in small diameter and big force value .

Plated
As description above, the spring is manufactured from beryllium copper, stainless steel and music wire, each of the three materials has unique characteristic. Three materials are primary consideration in choose a spring material: operating temperature, resistivity and the required force. Spring is plated either silver or gold, silver has a high thermal and electrical conductivity. And the intrinsic of gold prevents oxidation and corrosion.
Barrel is a deep-draw tube, and usually it needs to be plated by 2 times. First it will be nickel plated before applying secondary, the normally thickness is about 1~2 microns .The gold plating is the most common final layer at thickness from 0.1 to 1 microns. A relatively long tube of small diameter poses a challenge to conventional barrel plating techniques, a weep hole must be created in each end of the barrel to allow the plating solution to flow through the tube inside and deposit the gold and nickel ions appropriately. Or it must have an extremely limited scale: length to diameter.
Plunger is always plated by gold. Gold is the preferred plating, because it provides excellent conductivity and high resistance to corrosion. Besides, thickness of gold would positively affect the life-cycle. We also offer plating range from nickel alone, in cases where extreme economy is desired, to heavy gold plated. Alternative plating includes rhodium, palladium and other noble metals. Basically, different plating is applied for different product applications.
